I believe life is where we learn and correct ourselves.. There are the hard parts (when your beliefs are challenged, when you health and wealth are challenged, ect.) and there are the times where you are wrong and are corrected. You must balance your spirituality, morals, ethics and your wealth, health and career very carefully.
As CS Lewis said, "If you think of the world as a place designed for our own happiness, you find it quite intolerable. If you think of it as a place of training and correction, it's not so bad."

I really agree that it's a learning and correcting process. Pretty much a game of trial and error. I sure seen it a lot.
